An Imaginary Road-trip in the Age of Pandemic

Finding the Spirit of Nevada and the Road

We’ve been stuck at home for months now. I’m getting a bit stir crazy. Missing Nevada, the state that mostly made me what I am today:

  • A lover of the wide-open spaces, the big sky, the cloud-shadows as valleys and mountain ranges follow upon the other as you travel down the road.
  • A lover of the unexpected settlements, towns (ghost and otherwise), and cities that dot the landscape. Some of them, like Goldhill, having both ghosts and the living.
  • A lover of the people in them, like Dr. Dilworth, the founder of the Jackalope Hour Radio Show.
Surely, an online medicine generic brand viagra store can be the best for it. You levitra on line can only feel a considerable effect after using it for 3-4 days. The expected net result will be to narrow the blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the penis of the cialis cipla 20mg man in a sufficient manner which makes the erection firm and enjoyable for the two of them. You may think that escaping addiction to alcohol seems impossible but, the good thing is that never drop the medicine before the prescribed time then cheap viagra without prescription can treat you in full extent to come out from the acidic effects.

I’d get in the car now, but I don’t want to visit friends and family. Who knows what viruses lie in each encounter?

This yearning caused me to restart my Nevada Narratives website and start up a new publication on Medium, Nevada Notes and Narratives, but that just wasn’t enough. I’ve decided to write an imaginary travelogue taking two fictional friends to the places in Nevada where I’ve been and the places I wish I’d been.

You Can Come Along

I’ll be posting about this trip every day in August. You’ll visit a different place each day and get a different take on the place. You’ll visit parks, caves, small towns, ghost towns, and big cities. You’ll get the feeling of the drive. You’ll spend the night in hotels, motels, and campgrounds.

A thirty-one-day tour, and all for free. I’ll be collecting the whole journey up in a little book at the end.

Our first stop will be the little town of Gerlach. It’s quiet now but in non-pandemic years it’s overrun by the middle of August by artists, stoners, dancers, fire spinners, and old hippies. It’s their last stop before venturing out to the dust, wind, and electronic music of the Black Rock Desert transformed by Burning Man.

Who Are Your Hosts?

Hi, this is Lisa. I’m one of the imaginary women who will be taking this trip. Just broke up with my fiance, so it’s a good time for me to hit the road.

Hello, I’m Jenny. Lisa’s imaginary best friend. I’m a writer so I can work on the road. I’ll be keeping you up on what’s happening on the trip.

Lisa and Jenny might be channeling me or one of my imaginary lives. But, then again, they might be channeling my daughter, my siblings, or even my best friend Molly.

Maybe, you’ll even find them channeling you as you let your mind settle into the trip. I want this to be fun for everyone.

What’s the Itinerary?

This is the great part. I asked this question to my Facebook groups and I got sixty-four responses. This is the biggest response I’ve ever gotten to a question.

Clearly there are plenty of places to visit.

We’ll cover the major highway, the back roads, and everything in between. I’m planning the itinerary right now. It’ll be coming soon.

Planning a trip starts with your imagination.

You’re invited to nurture your spirit while finding the spirit of the place. Add your stories in the comments as we come to the places that touch you.

  1. I can’t wait to ramble down the road with Lisa and Jenny. I’m sure it will be an inspired and delightful adventure.

    1. Hi Courtney, The posts are in the stories tab. Right now they are the top three stories. I got a little slowed down by circumstances but more are soon to come.
